Advent: Grace in Action - Day 20

John 1:15-18

(John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

Reflection

In John 1:15-18, the testimony of John the Baptist highlights the preeminence and divinity of Jesus. John attests that although Jesus came after him, He ranks before him because He was before all things. This passage underscores the truth that Jesus is eternal, a revelation of God’s fullness and grace. Through Him, we receive grace upon grace, a new covenant that surpasses the law given through Moses. John's words invite us to recognize Jesus as the ultimate revelation of God, embodying an unmatched grace and truth. As we ponder the significance of this message, we are called to appreciate the depth of God's love and the privilege of being His children through faith in Christ.

Action

Reflect on the abundance of grace you have received through Jesus. Consider how you can mirror this grace in your interactions with others, particularly as Grace in Action Sunday approaches. Commit to extending forgiveness and understanding, just as you have been forgiven and understood by Christ. Use this time to practice being a vessel of God's love, creating an environment of peace and acceptance in your community.

Prayer

Dear God, we're so thankful for the grace we get from Your Son, bringing us endless love and mercy. Help us show this grace in our daily lives by spreading it to those around us as proof of Your amazing power to change us. As we get closer to Grace in Action Sunday this advent, inspire us to act with kindness and compassion, inviting others into the warmth of Your love. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
