Zechariah 9:9
Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
Reflection
As we continue to reflect on the promised Messiah, we see a striking contrast in this passage. Here, the great and victorious King of Israel is depicted as riding on a lowly donkey. This humble image reminds us that Jesus came not as a conquering hero, but as a servant leader, bringing salvation through His sacrificial death on the cross.
It also serves as a reminder that true greatness does not come from power or status, but from serving others with humility and love. As we strive to follow Christ’s example, may we remember that our actions and attitudes towards others should be marked by humility and selflessness.
ActionÂ
Think of a time when you witnessed or experienced true humility in action. Take a moment to thank God for the example that person set and ask Him to help you cultivate humility in your own life. Consider ways that you can serve others with humility, putting their needs above your own desires and ambitions. Invite a friend or family member to join you in serving others on Grace in Action Sunday (December 22).
Prayer
Loving Father, we thank You for the example of humility that Jesus demonstrated throughout His life. Help us to follow in His footsteps, serving others with love and selflessness. Guide us as we prepare for Grace in Action Sunday, using our hearts and hands to bring glory to Your name. May our actions reflect the humble spirit of Christ and draw others closer to Your Kingdom. Amen
