Luke 2:8-10
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.
Reflection
The shepherds were considered lowly in society, yet God chose to reveal His good news to them first. This emphasizes that God sees and values each and every one of us, no matter our social standing or perceived importance. It also shows His desire for all people to experience the joy of salvation through Jesus. This reminds us to never underestimate the power of God's love and grace in our own lives.
Action
Reach out to someone who may feel overlooked or forgotten this holiday season. Show them that they are seen and loved by God, just as the shepherds were. Write a note, make a phone call, or simply offer a smile and kind words. Let them know that they are valued and cherished by God and by you.
Prayer
Gracious God, we thank You for sharing Your good news with humble shepherds, a reminder of Your love and care for all humanity. Help us recognize the inherent worth in every individual and inspire us to share Your message of love with those who might feel forgotten or overlooked. As Grace in Action Sunday approaches, may we become vessels of Your grace and bringers of joy this Advent to those around us. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
