Luke 2:1-5Â Â Â
In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.
Reflection
The journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem would have been around 70 miles and it would have taken Mary and Joseph several days on foot or by donkey. It was a difficult and uncomfortable journey, especially for Mary who was pregnant. Yet, they obeyed the law and made this long and tiring trip because of their faith in God’s plan for them. This reminds us to trust in God's timing and plans, even when it requires sacrifice.
Action
Think of a time when you had to make sacrifices or endure difficulties due to circumstances beyond your control. Write down how that experience strengthened your faith and helped you to rely on God during challenging times. Share this story this Advent with someone as an encouragement and reminder of God's faithfulness.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the example of Mary and Joseph, who trusted in Your plan even when it was difficult. Help us to have the same faith and obedience, especially during times of uncertainty. As we prepare for the birth of Jesus, may we be reminded that Your plans are perfect and Your timing is flawless. Strengthen our trust in You, knowing that You are always with us on our journey. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
